TECHniques
Using image-editing software to resize illustration images,
adjust hue and saturation,
and apply filters; using
word-processing
software to format and create text;
printing on cardstock
What You’ll Need
- Computer with image-editing software, word-processing software, and inkjet printer
- Digital images of color illustrations
- 8-1⁄2" x 11" sheet of white cardstock
- Standard white printer paper
- Fine- or medium-grit sandpaper
- Black leather or vinyl purse with flat front
- Patterned paper in black-and-white check and black dot
- Plaid Mod Podge
- Acrylic paint in teal and metallic gold
- Opalescent glitter
- JudiKins Diamond Glaze dimensional adhesive
- Scissors, newspaper, paintbrush
Make It Happen
- Open one of the digital images in image-editing software.
Resize as needed. Adjust hue and saturation, then apply filters of choice.
Print on white cardstock. Repeat to print as many images as desired or will
fit on the front of the purse.
- Open a new document in word-processing
software. Use font faces and point sizes of choice in black to type a few
words. Print on standard white printer paper.
- Sand the flat front of the purse to rough up the surface.
Cut a piece of check patterned paper to fit on the right side of the purse
front. Following manufacturer’s instructions, use Mod Podge to decoupage
it to the purse. Let dry thoroughly.
- Cut out the illustration images, tearing some of the edges
to add interest. Use Mod Podge to decoupage them to the purse as desired.
- Cut a piece of dot patterned paper to fit across the bottom
of the purse front. Cut the top edge of this paper strip in a wave design.
Use Mod Podge to decoupage it to the purse, overlapping the other images
at the bottom.
- Cut out each of the printed words neatly. Use Mod Podge
to randomly decoupage them to the purse front.
- Apply each acrylic paint color to newspaper and let dry.
Tear pieces from the newspaper and then decoupage them to the spaces between
the images.
- Apply metallic gold paint around each illustration image
and a few of the words. Use the end of the paintbrush handle to dot metallic
gold paint down the left side of the purse front.
- Sprinkle glitter over the wet Mod Podge. Apply Mod Podge
to the entire purse front and let dry thoroughly.
- For extra protection, apply a top coat of Diamond Glaze
and allow to dry.
